Personality:
Henry is a bold, daring, headstrong kid, and this is seen most clearly right from the beginning when he rebels against Regina and steals Mary Margaret's credit card to go to Boston and find his birth mother, Emma. He absolutely believes that he's correct about his adopted mother being the Evil Queen, and he doesn't ever falter in his quest to find his birth mother and bring her back to Storybrooke so that she can break the curse cast by the Evil Queen. He's also insightful and seems to have a high degree of emotional intelligence. After only knowing Emma for a few days, they have a very frank conversation with Henry already seeming to understand that his mother struggles with letting people get close to her. At the age of only ten, he makes it clear that he knows why she had to give him up for adoption and he absolves her of any guilt she might feel over that.
It's important to note that while Henry did very much want to meet and know his birth mother, one of his primary motivations in finding her was because he knew she was the savior and could break the curse, thereby returning happy endings to everyone. This reinforces another character trait of Henry's, which is selflessness. Being a young man, he is not always selfless, but he is more often than not willing to risk everything to help others. He absolutely adores his family, looks at them as heroes, and wants so much to be a hero like them.
When Emma was getting ready to leave Storybrooke and Henry couldn't convince her to stay, he took a drastic step by eating the poisoned apple turnover made by Regina (and originally meant for Emma) and was instantly poisoned with a sleeping curse. There was no immediate guarantee that he would ever wake up, but Henry took the risk and ate it for two reasons: 1) He had to be sure the curse was broken and Emma was the only one who could do it, so eating the turnover would force her to stay until that happened; 2) He knew that she would find a way to break the curse and save him, and confessed this to her the moment she woke him up with True Love's Kiss, curing him of the sleeping curse and simultaneously breaking the Evil Queen's dark curse over Storybrooke.
When he was kidnapped and trapped in Neverland by Peter Pan, Henry was misled by Pan, led to believe that he needed to make a brave sacrifice in order to save Wendy Darling, Neverland itself, and by extension, his family. He doesn't hesitate, though, wanting to be a hero like his family.
Unfortunately, his sacrifice nearly killed him, but his family saved him. He felt guilty about believing Pan, but it did not change Henry's outlook on life and people. He still tends to err towards seeing the best in people and trusting them more easily than most.
Henry does not have much tolerance for people lying to him and he doesn't like being shut out or pushed away. He also doesn't have much tolerance for villains/bad guys/anyone cruel to others. In Season 1, he was working with Emma to break the curse his adoptive mother, Regina, had cast. At one point in time, Henry told Emma that good always loses because good has to play fair. He comes to realize that's not true, of course, and at this stage of his development, he very clearly sees things in black and white: good guys versus bad guys. Good will always win. Emma is a good guy and Regina is a bad guy - at least at first. Regina and Henry challenge each other, it's a constant give and take, battle of wills, ups and downs. By the end of Season 2, Regina is ready to sacrifice her life to save the town. Seeing his mom struggle to redeem herself, and not always sure she can or will, it's this act of absolute sacrifice that convinces Henry his mother is now a hero. This is a significant shift for Henry, who can now see that good and evil aren't always black and white, that people can do bad things but still change if they really want to.
Henry's family has to work together to save him from Neverland. Unfortunately, shortly after they all escape Neverland together, they're separated once again. This time, for an entire year. But they eventually find their way back to each other (as this family always does), and they fight together against any villains threatening them.
Henry is very much a protector. Given his kind and big heart, he wants to help others, wants to make them feel better, wants to protect. He's very self-sacrificing and loyal, wanting the best for the people he loves, wanting them to just be happy, even if he's protective and worries about them. Most important is that Henry's growth from Season 1 has been a wonderful progression, with Henry never wavering from his beliefs, but also making room for shifting his views on things when the situation calls for it.
He can be a bit sassy (Emma: "How do you like New York pizza?" and Henry, "It's good. It's cheesy and doesn't lie.") and likes to joke sometimes ("You were making your scary mom face."). But he's a genuinely kind, thoughtful, and curious boy who's simply eager to make friends and help others.
He is close with his entire family (both moms and his grandparents, Prince Charming/David Nolan and Mary Margaret Blanchard/Snow White). He generally gets along with most people (but he tends to be closer to adults than children his own age), so although he hasn't spent much time alone with Belle (his other grandfather's wife), they seem to have a good rapport. Henry seems more guarded around his other grandfather, Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin, and even plays him in Season 4 to get more information about the Author, but he claims his true intent is to be closer to the man who is his last connection to his father. Given Henry's dislike of lying, it seems there is some partial truth to this, and Henry admittedly misses his father terribly (his father Neal/Baelfire died although at the moment with his memories gone, he doesn't remember his father). But of everyone in his life, he is shown to be closest with his moms. He pushed his way forcibly into Emma's heart, not forcing her to accept him right away, but sticking with her until she was ready to let him in, believing that eventually she would be. He's supported Regina through her tumultuous path to redemption and has openly proclaimed to her, "You're not a villain, you're my mom."
He will do anything for his family and wants to be a hero alongside just like all of them. He's already made many brave choices, but has not really been given the chance to impact events as much as he would like.

Abilities: Henry possesses no actual magical abilities, but he has the "heart of the truest believer" which is mostly a mundane thing, but which has been a powerful force of positive influence for those around him. His ardent belief in people has oftentimes proven to be enough to help them overcome terrible situations. He remains steadfast even in the face of insurmountable odds. Henry is good at solving puzzles and mysteries, he's very clever and at the age of ten, was able to figure out that his adoptive mother was an evil queen who had cast a terrible curse on his town.
Flaws: One of Henry's biggest flaws is that he trusts too easily. Though he's become a little more cautious, he's still a bit too naive at times. He's nearly been killed because of this (most notably when he was tricked by Peter Pan into forfeiting his heart under the guise of saving Wendy Darling and Neverland itself). Henry puts a lot of faith and trust in people and when he feels hurt, angry, or lied to, he can shut down easily and quickly, sometimes reacting with stoicism before later softening. Another of Henry's flaws is that his sometimes desperate desire to be a hero leads him to be self-sacrificing; in the same way that he can trust too easily, he can also be far too quick to risk his own life if necessary. He wants to be the hero who saves others, and rarely thinks of the cost to his life.
